The History of Gods & The Starved Mother

Location: The Prison of Ebrietas

The Ley Lines & The Gravity Pulse

Following the defeat of Thaddeus Revile, the platform descended into a massive obsidian cavern—a void stone hollow beneath the city. A wall blocked their path, sealed by twelve golden ley lines. Morrigan Acheron (NPC) stepped forward, revealing that while twelve lines were present, only three actually held the seal; the rest were decoys connected to the entity within .

The party engaged in a high-stakes Skill Challenge to identify and cut the correct lines without triggering a catastrophic gravity collapse:

  • Grim used Insight to listen to the "vibe" of the lines, hearing the whispers of Aravae to predict energy surges .

  • Tim Patty used Arcana to identify the drifting sigils and pin down the correct lines based on their "frequency shift" .

  • Oberyn used Athletics to physically hold Morrigan in place during a gravity distortion that warped time around them, preventing her from being thrown into the void .

  • Basil used Survival to help Morrigan understand the "art" of the Black Church rituals, guiding her hand for the final cut .

Despite their success, the final cut released a massive gravity pulse. Those who failed the Constitution save took heavy bludgeoning damage and exhaustion. Astaroth (the dragon) used Healing Word to keep the party on their feet .

The Long Rest & The Dragon Die

Before entering the final chamber, the group took a "save point" rest. Astaroth distributed supplies to aid them in the coming god-fight, noting he couldn't take them with him if he died again:

  • Supplies: 4 Potions of Healing & 3 Greater Healing Potions per person.

  • Dragon Dice: Obsidian dice with red flakes. These grant the party an extra use of the Lucky feat (or advantage) for the final battle .

The Spiral of History

The group descended a massive spiral staircase into the abyss. The walls were lined with animated frescoes that only moved when looked at directly. These paintings revealed the secret history of the First Age:

  1. The Descent: Ebrietas falling like a prismatic comet, cracking the world upon impact.

  2. The Summoning: Colin’s arrogant ritual atop the floating city of Kana that brought her to Cole .

  3. Matuk’s Stand: An orc titan wrestling the sun-like entity into her prison, his bones breaking as he forced her underground .

  4. The Lesson: Ariel teaching Aravae and Michaela the spells Cataract of Fire and Karmic Justice. Tim Patty stared too intently at the depiction of the spell's impact and was permanently Deafened by the silent boom .

  5. The Carcosa Catastrophe: Stevia witnessed the "Mother of Light" (Sezlita) playing her opus, recognizing the song that inspired her own bardic magic .

Boss Fight: Ebrietas (Phase 1)

The party stepped through a final door covered in "Kazooian" runes into a void the size of a continent. In the center, suspended in a crystal ribcage above a fractured spiral, was Ebrietas—the Starved Mother .

The objective was clear: Break the three golden chains holding her to force her out of her invulnerable cradle.

Combat Highlights:

  • Grim opened the fight with a massive shot from Faith Breaker, dealing 31 damage to a chain immediately .

  • Stevia lit up the central mass with Faerie Fire, granting advantage to the team, but was nearly crushed by a flailing tentacle (32 damage) later in the fight .

  • Tim's Deafness: Despite being deaf from the fresco, Tim unleashed Spray of Cards, shredding the chains with force damage (which dealt double damage to the structures) . Ebrietas retaliated by blasting him backward into a wall with a gravity beam .

  • Basil utilized Chromatic Orb and Magic Missile to target the chains, though Ebrietas used legendary actions to intercept some attacks with broken chain links .

  • Oberyn acted as the tank, using his shield to deflect massive tentacle slams. He eventually landed the final blow on the last chain .

The Cradle Falls

With the chains shattered by Oberyn, the crystal ribcage broke. Ebrietas fell to the floor of the void, her form elongating and tearing open to reveal a pulsing mass of star-stuff and organs.

The chains are gone. The cradle is broken. Phase 2 has begun. .

Notable Loot & Items

  • Dragon Die: Gifted by Astaroth (Extra Luck point).

  • Potions: Fully stocked for Phase 2.

Quote of the Night

"I typically groan when I go down too." — Grim, making a terrible joke as the elevator platform descends.
